Weekly Update 11

This week i have completed...

3 past student evaluations. these were from Lew Parker, Ruby and Carla and Jack and Airi.
I noted the strengths and weaknesses of the evaluation and the technologies that they used to create the evaluation.

This week I have also completed the launch party poster for the Hopeless Wanderer EP. It shows the Scallope at Aldeburgh which is where the private launch party is.

The poster looks really professional and Legen wait for it Dary

Thats all for this week

Stay classy :)

Ancillary task Launch Party Poster

The second ancillary task as well as the CD cover was to create a poster for the album launch party of the song. I am amazed at how the Poster has turned out and feel it looks majorly professional.

I decided to create a launch poster rather than a magazine advert for the whole album. I took the idea of an album launch poster from Lew Parker's Viva Brother video and poster.
The poster has a black block colour background and consists of one main image of the Scallop sculpture at Aldeburgh- where the launch party will be.
Although not music related, the idea of a launch party with such vague instructions came from the Forza Horizon Xbox Series. When you unlocked events at the Horizon festival, out posts would appear on the map, providing information for the next VIP event. This is similar to my poster in that the only people that will know about the event happening is those who are VIP'S or those who have followed the band constantly and know exactly where the filming location of the video was.

The poster itself shows the band logo in the opposite corners of the page. The gentlemen of the road logo - the bands own promotion company is situated central on the black background. The writing and information on the poster is in the same font as the CD cover- which is also included on the poster. All of the typeface is in white on the very dark background. This makes the writing stand out and also conveys the genre to the audience. At the bottom of the poster, there is the bands logo and the record label-universal- logo. Also the HMV and iTunes logo are shown to allow the audience to see where the EP can be purchased from.

Past student evaluation 3 Jack and Airi

Q1- Prezi
Prezi title page shows the youtube link to the video, how they used forms and conventions- conventions of the genre and how the audience could relate to the video- age of the actors. How good wins 7 relates to their media product. How they've challenged the conventions of real media products- not always lip synching. Ancillary tasks- how it links to the video-using the same images as the video for the Ancillary tasks.

Q2-Powerpoint
Colour- How the colour scheme is used in the video and in the ancillary tasks. How the typography relates to the video and the ancillary tasks. If the typography relates to the official bands video or logo. Why they chose the typography and colour scheme. How they challenged or matched the conventions of the colour scheme.

Q3- Video piece to camera
Sitting too far away from the camera and is therefore hard to hear. good use of incorporating clips and images into the video. good use of audience feedback throughout and clips of before and after. The information was there, however the video was too short and was hard to hear over background noise and how far he sat away from the camera in the auditorium.

Q4- Video podcast- Radio broadcast
Good concept of the interview. naming all the technologies used and having n image for each one. What we used the technologies for- which task. What inspiration did you take from the genre and what technologies did you use to create the video in the genre.  Importing footage- technologies used. Mention every technology used and have image for each piece. Technology used during audience feedback-survey monkey, social media etc. which technology let you down?

All together the whole evaluation seemed a bit flat and rushed at times. The videos were not entirely scripted and therefore did not flow correctly.

Past student evaluation 2 Carla and Ruby

Q1- Video piece to camera
The video no longer exists on Youtube, so i could not watch it.

Q2-Prezi
How they put the ancillary tasks together and chose which ones they were going to do. What they wanted to keep from the video and use n the ancillary tasks- actors, scenes etc. what they did during the editing process-looking at colour schemes and images to use etc. What they struggled with, with the digipak and how they accomplished it- Having enough shots to create a convincing CD cover etc. Good points and bad points after reviewing the digipak and advertisement. Good and bad points of the music video and what they'd change. The links between all 3 products-Synergy. How the ancillaries were put together. Colour schemes and images used in the advert and DigiPak. How all the products link. What they would do better if they had the opportunity to re do the video or ancillaries- EVALUATE. Overall conclusion.

Q3-Powerpoint
How they gained audience feedback and how helpful this was. Questionnaire image of questions and answers. What we took from the audience feedback, what we changed.

Q4-video podcast
mentioning every technology used throughout the whole process, research, video, ancillary tasks and evaluation. Used constant images and video over the podcast. The podcast script was very clear and precise and there were no examples of stutters and false starts throughout.

Past student evaluations 1 Lew Parker

Q1- video piece to camera
References the conventions of many different genres of music video. Looks closely at certain bands and songs and incorporates images of these throughout the video. Looks in depth at the videos of his chosen genre (Britpop). talks of intertextual references and Goodwins 7. Talks of iconography and typography in his ancillary tasks. Talks about the UK tribes and how this helped him discover his audience. The whole piece was scripted and therefore made it flow quickly. The one thing that didn't work well was that at the start of the video, Lew was not in flow and therefore some of his sentences including "umm" and pauses as he decided on what was to be said next.

Q2-Powerpoint
Shows examples of corporate branding and explains why branding is important. The visions and values of the brand and why these are important. His branding project- the vision, values and personality of his project-the video and ancillaries. Plan of the synergy he will use- ancillary tasks. Synergy of the music video-using MTV logo-realism, Bands logo. synergy of the poster-using promotion companies. Synergy of website/cd cover. Personality of the products. how to effectively establish a brand. No bad things about the powerpoint. USED EXAMPLES OF VIDEOS AND CD COVERS ETC THROUGHOUT.

Q3- Glogster
Notes each method of audience feedback, evaluates why it was good and also why it was neccessary. Shows video of powerpoint of questionnaire and answers. Arrows direct to each bit. videos of audience feedback. Quotes of feedback from social media and evaluate why social media was so good to use for feedback. How the feedback was used to make the video better. Things that you would do differently-EVALUATE THE VIDEO AND FEEDBACK.

Q4-Podcast
Talks about the simple things on blogger- creating labels etc, also talks of technology we take for granted- internet, smartphones and laptops etc. Talks about screen grabbing etc on iMacs. How youtube and social media was good for sharing and getting audience feedback. Images of comments etc from Facebook and youtube. Images of past student work and talk about past student work. The technology used throughout- Prezi, powerpoint, survey monkey, glogster etc- what they were used for and why used. Preliminary task- what we used them for, what we did, what technology we used, where the technology came from. Why we didn't use iMovie and used final cut instead. Tehcnology used during the ancillary tasks and the tools used to make them- crop etc. the technologies used during the evaluation including the question being done.

Final draft of Music video

Here is the first final draft of the Music video! It is FINALLY FINISHED!!!!!

Enjoy!!!

Tuesday 6 January 2015

Final CD cover

First post of 2015!  The final CD cover for the Hopeless Wanderer EP.

The CD is a six sided folded cover with no spine design to the CD. This is similar to Ben Howard's new album and Arctic monkeys AM.

The front, back and left cover show the singer walking away from the shot with the guitar on his back, down a woodland track. The cover has been designed so that when opened fully the journey across the covers shows the singer walking away from the camera down the woodland track.

The front cover shows the band name and EP title (Hopeless Wanderer) in an old typewriter font that suits the folk genre of the song and video.

The back cover shows the songs on the EP  and also shows the logos of the band and the record labels they are signed under. There is also a barcode for the CD and legal copyright information provided by the band and the main label they work under (Sony).
The left cover shows him walking down the track and shows the start of his journey when the cover is fully opened.
The inside right cover shows the woodland track scene and in the same font as the rest of the cover introduces each band member and the instruments and vocals that they play to the audience.
The back inside cover, which holds the CD shows the clapper board used during the filming of the video and shows the production company, the date of filming, the band name and the cameraman. The scene is the beach scene from the beginning of the music video.

The back of the front cover shows the beach scene from the beginning of the music video. It shows the singer and his girlfriend walking along the beach hand in hand. This shows that at the start of the video he is in a relationship and then when he is on the woodland track alone, the audience wonder why the girl is not there (break up or worse?)
